Dear Friends – Delegates, Attendees, District Leaders and Pastors:
Our annual District Assembly will take place Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14. The combined NMI, SDMI and NYI Conventions will follow on Saturday, June 15. This year we are hosted by the Guildford Church and appreciate its generous hospitality in serving the people of our district.
Our theme this year builds on the themes of the past: Better Together – Stronger Together
Many of you will recall that in 2010 we changed our format significantly by starting Assembly on Thursday evening (7:00pm), continuing through Friday and then moving into our three Conventions on Saturday. We will do so again this year but have made another round of improvements and changes to the format. There are distinct challenges that arise when attempting to combine what formerly took three full days to conduct. We have continued to dialogue, evaluate and adapt the schedule and format to meet the needs of each Convention and to truly help us be “Better Together”. We trust you will enjoy the “upgrades” noted below.
WE ARE ON FACEBOOK – NEW FOR 2013 – LINKS TO REGISTRATION
This year we will be using Facebook as an additional means by which to promote, update and offer registration to Assembly/Convention delegates and friends. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A FACEBOOK USER TO VIEW THE PAGE. KEEP UP TO DATE ON ANNOUNCEMENTS, etc. Currently there are photos from previous Assemblies and Conventions and we are building the site to provide points of interest and to offer you a means for convenient feedback. Check it out…
CONVENTIONS VOTING METHOD FOR 2013
Last year we introduced a significant change in our voting method for the Conventions (NOT for Assembly). Convention delegates will once again receive a ballot package on arrival and will submit their confidential votes at their leisure via secure collection. Voting will remain open until the conclusion of Breakfast Saturday morning. Results will be announced in our Plenary Sessions.
CONVENTION BUSINESS SESSIONS
All elements of the NYI, NMI and SDMI business sessions will be incorporated into the totality of our time at Guildford beginning on Thursday evening, continuing on through Friday and concluding Saturday.
If you have attended an Assembly or Convention in the past you will know that we have always had great displays representing a variety of ministries from across the district and beyond. This year we would like to develop that ministry further and are inviting local churches to consider signing up for display space to represent, inform, educate, inspire and perhaps to equip your fellow believers in their service to others. When you register online you will be directed to a form that will allow you to reserve a ministry display area.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAM – REGISTER ONLINE – MORE INFO THERE
For the past three Conventions we have offered a Saturday Children’s program designed to enable parents to attend the Conventions knowing exactly where their children are and what they are doing. What’s more – it’s free and includes snacks and a great program, teaching children about the love of God. Children will join their parents for the closing Conventions lunch on Saturday. Age limits are in effect for this program.
COMPLIMENTARY SATURDAY BREAKFAST WILL START THE CONVENTIONS AND LUNCH WILL CONCLUDE THE CONVENTIONS
We have received overwhelmingly positive reviews about the change in the Conventions schedule we implemented last year and we will be continuing that format and structure. Once again we will start with a complimentary Breakfast (sponsored by SDMI) at 8:45am Saturday and conclude with Lunch on Saturday afternoon which is expected to wind up at approximately 2:30pm.
SUNDAY CELEBRATION SERVICE
We encourage you to stay over for the concluding Sunday morning celebration service and BBQ lunch (no advance reservation required – modest cost) if at all possible and join with your District family in a wonderful service. We realize it is Father’s Day and are planning to incorporate this emphasis into our time together. For those who must travel home, the Saturday schedule provides leeway to travel at a reasonable hour – no need to leave early!
SPECIAL HONOURED GUESTS
Dr. J.K. Warrick (his wife will be traveling with him) will be our presiding General Superintendent for the Assembly and will speak devotionally throughout the Assembly as well as during the Ordination service Friday night. John and Laurie Watton (Canadian Missionaries), will be the presenters at the combined NMI, SDMI and NYI Conventions as well as our speakers on Sunday morning for the closing Celebration service. Dr. Riley Coulter will represent Ambrose and Dr. Clair MacMillan will represent the National Church.
The Assembly/Conventions hotel will hold our block of designated rooms until Saturday, June 1, 2013 but will continue to honour the preferred rate as long as rooms are available. As well, the rate is in effect for three days prior and three days following our block reservation so you may take advantage of this rate if you wish to add some vacation time to your visit. The Sheraton hotel, www.sheratonguildford.com has honoured the same rate as in 2010 and it is an excellent rate. The Sheraton is a full service facility with an excellent restaurant; outdoor pool, spa and a variety of room choices (upgrade cost associated). Local Churches have received additional information by way of posters and brochures which are provided to assist in the process of informing congregations about these upcoming days of inspiration and blessing.
