Youth in Mission Students are HERE!!!
Each summer Youth In Mission places over 100 college students from the United States and Canada in ministry around the world. Each participant selected commits himself/herself to a 12-week extensive “advance training” program during the spring, raises a ministry contribution to the program, participates in Youth In Mission Training Camp, and serves for about 7 weeks in a self-giving, intense ministry experience followed by a time of debriefing.
In June those selected to participate in the Youth In Mission program gather for training camp. It is an intense week of spiritual growth, worship, team building, and the strengthening of gifts and abilities. Participants are involved in a variety of ministry seminars during the morning, in training related to their specific site during the afternoon, and in worship and celebration in the evening.
Participants in Youth In Mission are chosen after a detailed placement process. Online applications and references for applicants are carefully reviewed. Students are notified of their placement by mid-December, or after December, within 3 weeks of submitting their application. After their selection, participants immediately begin raising funds and preparing themselves spiritually for the summer ahead.
Guildford Church of the Nazarene and Mission Possible have 2 of these student volunteers currently working in their ministries. Mary Middleton and Katelyn Spielman are spending some of their days working at the Guildford Church with Pastor Andrew Tarrant, Teresa Fuergutz and Pastor Lorna Bartram in the Helping Hands Children’s Centre. They are also venturing to the Downtown Eastside where they are helping Brian Postlewait and his team at Mission Possible. From July 6-11, Mary and Katelyn will be camp counsellors at Kidz Camp. Please pray for Mary and Katelyn as they engage in each of these important summer ministries.
Mary and Katelyn just returned from the SDMI and NMI Conventions and the District Assembly where they had opportunity to publicly share with the NMI Convention delegates and guests and as well to help with a wide range of hands-on responsibilities of the Conventions and Assembly. We were very grateful for their assistance and ministry among us.
