We are pleased to welcome Dr. Carolyn Johnson, founder of Firm Foundation Ministries to be our guest speaker for Oasis 2017.
Carolyn is passionate about knowing God and communicating His life-changing messages in a culturally relevant way. She resides in San Diego, California, where she is a recognized educator, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. For more about Carolyn and her ministry visit www.firmfoundationministries.org.
Carolyn Johnson and her family have encountered more than a few obstacles . . .
Her husband has been in three automobile accidents where his vehicle was totalled each time. In one of those accidents, his vehicle was an ambulance.
Husband Jim has had cancer and major surgery. He has been robbed at gunpoint by teenagers in a gang and was then shot in the face. Carolyn was pregnant with her second child and the trauma led to complications.
When their third child stopped breathing and had seizures, they were told he was probably brain-damaged.
God has led her through a couple of desert experiences – one lasting over five years. Carolyn reflects, “For those who have had desert experiences, you know it’s a very dry time. It can include issues of health, loss of relationships, finances, jobs, and children. One feels stripped of just about everything when you are in the desert. And yet, the ironic thing about these experiences is that when you finally get through them, you come out so incredibly strong in your faith and have a relationship you never dreamed of having with God. At the other side of this experience you see it has been worth it all.”
Oasis is a 3 day ladies retreat that takes place during the first weekend of March at Camp Squeah Retreat Centre in Hope, BC.
The retreat is a women’s ministry of the Canada Pacific District, Church of the Nazarene. We encourage women from all denominations and walks-of-life to join us for this fun weekend away from the usual responsibilities. The retreat has 3 main purposes: (1) to give women a space that is restful, fun and safe, (2) provide opportunity for women to build deeper connections, (3) encourage growth in Christ through scripture application, holistic worship, and conversations with God and others. We hope you will join us March 3 to March 5, 2017. Click here for more information regarding our values.
